What data is expected?

3-day forecasts of temperature, precipitation and wind. Forecasts have to be provided for several regions in the country. Short-term weather forecasts are relevant for the general public to plan activities, while also being reliable. See our methodology section for more information.

How open is the data?

The submission was altered. It referred to Albania's Military Meteorological Service, which does not provide data for public weather services, but for military purposes. Albania's meteorological services are split into different agencies. According to the World Meteorological Organisation, the official agency for weather forecasts is the Hydrometeorological Institute. This institute resides within the Polytechnic University of Tirana - Institute of GeoSciences, Energy, Water and Environment (IGEWE). The Hydrometeorological Institute provides weather forecasts (precipitation, etc.) for public services. The Polytechnic University is a public body, and holds data. Further background can be found at: https://www.wmo.int/cpdb/albania. The reference dataset for this review is a pdf file containing all required forecast data. The website also provides a dataportal for historical/observation data. It displays temperature extremes, wind speed, and precipitation amount, all per district. Since it does not display all required characteristics, and provides observations, it does not qualify for the review.
