Company Register 85% open

Belgium

What data is expected?

List of registered (limited liability) companies. The submissions in this data category do not need to include detailed financial data such as balance sheet, etc. Open data from company registers may be used for many ends: e.g. enabling customers and businesses to see with whom they deal, or to see where a company has registered offices. This definition draws on the work of OpenCorporates.

  • Name of company
  • Company address
  • Unique identifier of the company
  • Register available for entire country

How open is the data?

The review needed to be changed, because during a link was down that had been submitted during the very first submission. We kept the reviewer's original comments: Comment Evangelia Kampouri: "I could not find any data on the data.gov.be and https://economie.fgov.be websites as suggested by the submitter. According to the open data license agreement (https://economie.fgov.be/nl/modules/publications/kbo/licence_open_data.jsp), "the licensee may not reuse the data for a purpose other than the one stated in his registration as a user of the files 'open data'" so it appears that in order to access the data, a registration was to be expected. Also, "the licensor shall make the information available in the form of CSV files of the licensee on the website https://kbopub.economie.fgov.be/kbo-open-data. The data is the first Sunday of the month [sic] and updated at the latest on Monday." The link should redirect to a user registration form, however the links lead nowhere (https://kbopub.economie.fgov.be/kbo-open-data/kbo-open-data/signup?form=&lang=en). The link provided by the submitter (https://data.gov.be/nl/node14657) redirects to an error: "page could not be found". Hence, the link provided by the submitter was replaced with the website address https://kbopub.economie.fgov.be/kbopub/zoeknummerform.html which appears to be the only way of finding company data. Entities can be searched for free through a search mask and it is necessary to know the name, number, activity, license, or address of an entity in order to find it. The data cannot be downloaded at once, thus I changed the answer to B5 accordingly. Rather than .CSV format as stated by the submitter, the list of enterprises/establishment units is presented in .HTML format and can also be downloaded in .PDF form. The search results were presented based on the "situation in the CBE database on 13/02/2017" (today's date is 14/02/2017) so data appear to be updated regularly." Cookbook available https://economie.fgov.be/nl/modules/publications/kbo/cookbook_open_data.jsp

Data is available as webservice (public search) one request at a time https://kbopub.economie.fgov.be/kbopub/zoeknaamfonetischform.html Bulk download requires registration. This review exclusively refers to the dataset that is downloadable in bulk available at https://kbopub.economie.fgov.be/kbo-open-data/kbo-open-data/signup?form=&lang=en Therefore points were subtracted for registration requirement. The data is, however, available in bulk, and is in an open format. The license available at https://economie.fgov.be/fr/modules/publications/bce/licence_open_data.jsp limits reusability as following clause states: Le preneur de licence s’engage à ce que les données ne soient pas altérées ni leur sens dénaturé.
