List of registered (limited liability) companies. The submissions in this data category do not need to include detailed financial data such as balance sheet, etc. Open data from company registers may be used for many ends: e.g. enabling customers and businesses to see with whom they deal, or to see where a company has registered offices. This definition draws on the work of OpenCorporates.

Your submission is valid. Thank you very much for contributing to the Global Open Data Index. Company data are available online free of charge via the Federal Commercial Registry Office website's Central Business Names Index feature. Data are provided through a search mask and one needs to enter at least three letters on the Business Name field in order to receive results. Results are given in .HTML format and at a glance include Company name, City, and Identification number. If one selects the Identification number or the .PDF option, more characteristics are provided in .HTML (one can then select an .XML excerpt) and .PDF format respectively. These include Identification number, Legal Status, Date of Entry, Business Name, Legal seat (city), Share Capital (CHF), Paid in (CHF), and Company Address. Data are regularly updated, but cannot be downloaded in bulk. As the submitter has noted, it is not possible to browse through the database or access data without providing a search term. However, there are daily summaries of new entries, changes and deletions to the register available to download on this page: https://zefix.admin.ch/shab/ but they are likely meant more as notifications than as a comprehensive resource. Lastly, data is available for personal use: "publication of the whole database, or of parts of it, by any means is strictly forbidden".
