Company Register 0% open

Costa Rica

What data is expected?

List of registered (limited liability) companies. The submissions in this data category do not need to include detailed financial data such as balance sheet, etc. Open data from company registers may be used for many ends: e.g. enabling customers and businesses to see with whom they deal, or to see where a company has registered offices. This definition draws on the work of OpenCorporates.

  • Name of company
  • Company address
  • Unique identifier of the company
  • Register available for entire country

How open is the data?

The original submission had to be rejected as not all four required characteristics can be found online. A list of companies, published in La Gaceta for dissolution, pursuant to article 6 of Law 9024, that contains entity names and ID numbers is available for free and downloadable at once in .XLS format on the National Registry website: https://www.rnpdigital.com/ https://www.rnpdigital.com/LISTADO%20DE%20EDICTOS.xlsx According to the submitter (originally submitted by Ignacio Alfaro Marín), one can buy company information on the National Registry website, which is the only public access online: https://www.rnpdigital.com/shopping/login.jspx Name, Unique Identifier, and Address of Costa Rican entities are available in a .PDF document sent to you when you buy it. In the online results one can only see the Name and Unique Identifier of the company in .HTML format, and data are not downloadable at once. However, accessing this information requires an account and is restricted with a captcha. I have been unable to verify the submitter's statements as the website does not make clear where one can register on the National Registry in order to buy/view the data; only the "sign in" option is available for those who already have a registered account. How often the data are updated is not specified, and the National Registry reserves, or holds for its own use, all the rights provided by copyright law (2013).
