This data category requires results by constituency / district for all major national electoral contests. Election data informs about voting outcomes and voting process. What are electoral majorities and minorities? How many votes are registered, invalid, or spoilt? To enable highest transparency, the Index assesses polling station data. Data for electoral zones does not suffice. The Index consulted the National Democratic Institute (NDI) to develop this data category. For more information, see the NDI’s Open Elections Data Initiative. We recommend that you consult our methodology section for more information.

Historical data from elections, such as parliamentary, regional and referendums, are available and easily findable through the website. About findability: On top of a search bar, on the Statistics site, there’s a subject called “Population and elections”, with a sub-category called “Elections”. There, you can find Elections to municipality councils, Elections to the European Parliament and Referendums data. After exploring selected data, it is one click to download in the selected format. By going to the websites containing XML and HTML data, the route to find the data is pretty straightforward. As the submitter stated, to get data at polling station level you need to use the HTML or XML version. You are not able to download the dataset in bulk at polling station level, for this you would need to make many XML requests. Submitter stated that for general elections, the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Interior is in charge. As for local elections municipalities are responsible. As for timely publication, submitter stated that there are problems obtaining live data in full depth at election night. Data is given to major media sites but not in machine-readable format to the general public or minor media outlets.
