Weather Forecast 85% open

Finland

What data is expected?

3-day forecasts of temperature, precipitation and wind. Forecasts have to be provided for several regions in the country. Short-term weather forecasts are relevant for the general public to plan activities, while also being reliable. See our methodology section for more information.

  • Temperature extremes
  • Temperature average
  • Wind speed
  • Wind direction
  • Precipitation Amount
  • Precipitation Probability
  • Forecast for current day and four following days

How open is the data?

FMI has decided to publish a major part of it's meteorological and oceanographic datasets as Open Data using open standard web service interfaces for geospatial data. This evolving documentation is intended to give a good head start on developing applications using weather and oceanographic data through the FMI's open data web services.

The submission is valid. One change was made: the data is available in bulk. One may choose different time ranges and geographical ranges and download forecasts for multiple regions at once. For example it is possible to get a two-day forecast for Finland in its entirety (see here for further explanations: https://en.ilmatieteenlaitos.fi/open-data-manual-forecast-models). Thank you, Aleksi Knuutila, for contributing to the Global Open Data Index.
