Note: The methodology used in the Global Open Data Index has changed over time; significantly so between 2015 and 2016. For this reason, the results are not directly comparable over time.

What data is expected?

3-day forecasts of temperature, precipitation and wind. Forecasts have to be provided for several regions in the country. Short-term weather forecasts are relevant for the general public to plan activities, while also being reliable. See our methodology section for more information.

  • Temperature extremes
  • Temperature average
  • Wind speed
  • Wind direction
  • Precipitation Amount
  • Precipitation Probability
  • Forecast for current day and four following days

How open is the data?

Data is only accessible through a web form piece by piece. The files are split per hour. Automating a collection and assembling of all files is quite complex. Therefore the data is not considered to be downloadable at once. The data is available in GRIB2 format. While open, the GRIB format is not easily accessible, trying and just map temperatures for the next day from this data requires some experience.
