Note: The methodology used in the Global Open Data Index has changed over time; significantly so between 2015 and 2016. For this reason, the results are not directly comparable over time.

What data is expected?

Data about the daily mean concentration of air pollutants, especially those potentially harmful to human health. Data should be available for all air monitoring stations or air monitoring zones in a country. The Index focusses on key pollutants as defined by the World Health Organisation. See our methodology section for more information.

  • Particulate matter (PM)
  • Sulphur oxides (SOx)
  • Nitrogen oxides (NOx)
  • Carbon monoxide (CO)
  • Ozone
  • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
  • Available per air monitoring station/zone

How open is the data?

Is the data available online? We have identified three (3) different sources of data for the following cities: Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra. The URLs are as follows: Athens: https://www.ypeka.gr/Default.aspx?tabid=708&language=en Thessaloniki: https://www.pkm.gov.gr/default.aspx?lang=el-GR&page=507 Patra:https://www.pde.gov.gr/gr/enimerosi/anartitea/airpollutionofpatras.html Does the data exist? No data available for VOCs Openly licenced? For Thessaloniki and Patra data can be re-distributed freely (please see openly licenced). In terms of Athens authorisation for the re-distribution of data must be granted by the Ministry of Environment & Energy. Licence for Thessaloniki: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ Licence for Patra: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/gr/ Is the data machine readable? No it is not. All sources are either HTML text or DOC (word) Available in bulk? Data in bulk is only available for the city of Patra.

Accepted without corrections. Data was uploaded city wise, but covers the minimum requirements.
