Note: The methodology used in the Global Open Data Index has changed over time; significantly so between 2015 and 2016. For this reason, the results are not directly comparable over time.

What data is expected?

3-day forecasts of temperature, precipitation and wind. Forecasts have to be provided for several regions in the country. Short-term weather forecasts are relevant for the general public to plan activities, while also being reliable. See our methodology section for more information.

  • Temperature extremes
  • Temperature average
  • Wind speed
  • Wind direction
  • Precipitation Amount
  • Precipitation Probability
  • Forecast for current day and four following days

How open is the data?

The data request form is broken. Data on 5, 7 and 30 day forecast is available, in PDF format. Journals and reports are outdated.

The submission was altered because the Kenya Meteorological Department does not provide wind forecasts (see for instance here: https://www.meteo.go.ke/pdf/five-day.pdf) Precipitation amount is described verbally ("Showers and thunderstorms over few places"). There is a data request form, but at the time of review it was still broken.
