Water Quality 0% open

Russia

What data is expected?

Data, measured at the water source, on the quality of water is essential for both the delivery of services and the prevention of diseases. The Index either looks at the quality of designated drinking water sources, or of environmental water sources (if drinking water data is not available). See our methodology for more information. In order to satisfy the minimum requirements for this category, data should be available on level of the following chemicals by water source.

  • Fecal coliform
  • Arsenic
  • Fluoride levels
  • Nitrates
  • Total Dissolved Solids
  • Data per water source
  • Available for entire country

How open is the data?

Russian water pollutants data collected by two Russian federal agencies. Primary agency is "Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare" (Rospotrebnadzor). This agency collects data about water and air pollutants but it's network is "shadowed". No data available at agency website https://rospotrebnadzor.ru/ (Rus) and it's official open data repository - https://opendata.rospotrebnadzor.ru/ I've visited every website of every facility owned by Rospotrebnadzor but no one provides water quality data as open data or report. Second agency is Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring of Russia (Roshydromet). Yearly water surface quality report prepared and published by Institute of Global Climate and Ecology of Roshydromet and Russian Academy of Sciences. It's subsidiary research facility of Roshydromet. Organization website - https://www.igce.ru/ (Rus) Last report was published for 2015 year https://downloads.igce.ru/publications/obz_gidrobiol_2/og_2015.pdf (Rus) first report was public and online since 2007 year https://downloads.igce.ru/publications/obz_gidrobiol/og_2007.pdf (Rus) This report is highly incomplete in terms of open data. It's dedicated to water surface quality only and has no detailed data by each chemical. So requirement "In order to satisfy the minimum requirements for this category, data should be available on level of the following chemicals by water source." is not matched for this data in Russia. Disclaimer: I am founder of NGO "Informational Culture" and OKI Ambassador in Russia (member of OKI Russia core team). I have no any affilation with Roshydromet or Rospotrebnadzor.
