Note: The methodology used in the Global Open Data Index has changed over time; significantly so between 2015 and 2016. For this reason, the results are not directly comparable over time.

What data is expected?

3-day forecasts of temperature, precipitation and wind. Forecasts have to be provided for several regions in the country. Short-term weather forecasts are relevant for the general public to plan activities, while also being reliable. See our methodology section for more information.

  • Temperature extremes
  • Temperature average
  • Wind speed
  • Wind direction
  • Precipitation Amount
  • Precipitation Probability
  • Forecast for current day and four following days

How open is the data?

The original submission does not qualify for the Index. The Turkish State Meteorological Service provides forecasts for the current day and the following four days only for temperature extremes and precipitation amount. Wind forecasts are only provided for the current day or for the sea (see here: https://mgm.gov.tr/en-US/marine-metu3-wind.aspx?d=a#sfB). The data is provided embedded in HTML and cannot be downloaded. There is no copyright waiver or similar notes that would indicate an open license.
