Water Quality 85% open

United States

What data is expected?

Data, measured at the water source, on the quality of water is essential for both the delivery of services and the prevention of diseases. The Index either looks at the quality of designated drinking water sources, or of environmental water sources (if drinking water data is not available). See our methodology for more information. In order to satisfy the minimum requirements for this category, data should be available on level of the following chemicals by water source.

  • Fecal coliform
  • Arsenic
  • Fluoride levels
  • Nitrates
  • Total Dissolved Solids
  • Data per water source
  • Available for entire country

How open is the data?

https://www.waterqualitydata.us/ site is much more user friendly than https://waterdata.usgs.gov/ - not sure when this new portal was created? valuable addition and good to see data sharing across USGS, US EPA and USDA on water quality

Submission is acceptable.

Data location   https://waterdata.usgs.gov/ - This site is the public web interface to the USGS National Water Information System, a system that is based on several development efforts that were established in our water science centers. This system became an operational production system in 2001.
https://www.waterqualitydata.us/ - The Water Quality Portal (WQP) is a cooperative service sponsored by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the National Water Quality Monitoring Council (NWQMC). It serves data collected by over 400 state, federal, tribal, and local agencies.
